New FMEA is already availale

Thanks to intensive work of AIAG and VDA experts a long-awaited new FMEA standard has already been published. It is still a draft version so it is possible to present reservations.

The changes are significant. FMEA analysis will be conducted in six steps (both PFMEA and DFMEA). The first step is the planning stage based on 5T approach. The second step is about analyzing the structure with division into particular elements (system-subsystem-product-component). Other two steps (just like before) are related to analyzing functions, errors, their effects and causes. Here in PFMEA a search of causes in 5 areas is suggested (5M known from the classic Ishikawa). The fifth step – risk analysis – a long-used RPN vanishes and AP (Action Priority) marking is adopted. New tables intended for S, O, D assessment are introduced. The last step is optimization.

The form is also changed. There are new columns (action status, process elements). The order of information is modified as well so that it forms a cause-effect (the failure chain – effect-failure-cause).

Therefore at this stage we take steps to adjust our program to new requirements so that our customers can adopt a new standard.
